Room Interior Design For Your Pets

Pets are considered part of the family, they have their needs too. Just like us, they need to have basic living arrangements and it’s obvious that theirs are very different from ours. Dedicated spaces for them is now a necessity, not a luxury. Living in a space-limited country like Singapore, this would be a challenge. However, there’s nothing too much or too difficult for your loved ones.

For hygiene purposes, having a dedicated space for cleaning your pets, especially cats and dogs would be ideal, instead of sharing bathrooms. Build a space for them to shower, dry and groom, where you can also put their toiletries, grooming tools and litter box together.

Pet Eating Area

A lot of pet parents make the mistake of placing their pets’ food and litter boxes next to each other. You wouldn’t want your pets to unknowingly contaminate their food and get sick. Get an interior designer to design a simple drawer in the kitchen cabinets for you to place pet food in.

Pet Play Area

Pets need entertainment too! Unlike us, they don’t need too many toys to pass the boredom. Get some baskets to put toys in, place a simple carpet and voila! If you have a cat, you should know that they love to climb. Install some cat shelvings on your wall and ceilings for them to climb all day long.

Recommended location: Any empty corner

Pet Sleep Area

Cats basically sleep anywhere and everywhere they fancy, even if you already have a dedicated space for them. However, cats do love to climb. Drill some shelves on your walls and ceilings, put in some scratch posts and mini hammocks for them to sleep in. You can be sure it would be paradise for them!

Dogs are more obedient and you can train them where to sleep. This is great if you want a beautiful home with great function. You can build some cabinetry as dog beds, or buy pet furniture and place them in a corner where it looks good in your home.

Recommended location: Any empty corner, room, wall or ceiling! (Depends on what kind of pet you have)

Caged pets

Cages really don’t look good anywhere but for pets that require the use of cages such as hamsters and rabbits, you can look into building a built-in cabinetry to blend in with your home aesthetics.

You can either have a built-in cage or customise a cabinetry that your cages can perfectly fit into. The latter is to provide the option in the case where your pet dies and you don’t want to use the cabinets for pets anymore.

Pet Safety

Just like how we ensure our own and our kids’ safety at home, we should do the same for our pets, in fact, especially pets. Ensure that your pets cannot squirm their way out of the windows or get into dangerous openings that they can get stuck in or hurt themselves. All wirings should be neatly tucked away or get an interior designer to hide them into your home design. Get a pet gate to keep them away from the kitchen while you are cooking. In short, the whole house has to be safe for you and your pets!

Get Smart with Space-Saving Furniture

We, living in Singapore, are used to small homes but are we creative enough to maximise the space that we have? Or are we compromising beautiful interior designs with space constraints? If you have no idea where to start, check this out!

Loft Bed

Small spaces might suppress a child’s abundant energy. Furthermore, they have a lot of things that they need – entertainment such as games, gadgets, toys; study and school supplies such as books, stationery, ipad, laptop; basic necessities such as clothes, bags and accessories.

Therefore, loft beds are perfect for them. Instead of taking up space horizontally, it takes up space vertically – which is exactly what the Singapore government is doing to maximise land. It not only allows kids to sleep and study, it also allows them to have more room to move around.

You can also have this bed in your spare room – make it an everything room! A room that can function as a guest room, home office or lounge. If a guest comes over to spend the night, pull this bed out, tuck it into the wall when not in use so that you can use the same space for something else!

Turn Empty Walls Into Something Useful

Empty walls are not a bad thing, not at all! Sometimes, empty walls actually help to emphasise an interior design concept such as minimalism. Plus, decor on every wall would be too much to look at. Apart from putting up photos, art and clocks up a wall, why not use your wall as a storage space?  If there is a need for you to maximise space, sometimes a wall is all you need.
